Implications of potential exclusions from the treaty scope and the need for a provision outlining approaches for exemptions during implementation of the Global Plastics Treaty

This document considers the implications of excessively narrowing the scope of the treaty by using inappropriate non-scientific definitions, excluding specific materials and products from the treaty, and granting blanket exemptions to sectors. We present an approach to effectively evaluate requests for exemptions during implementation of the treaty.
